Description
Akcay Hes Elektrik Üretim A.Þ. (AKCAY) has established a 28.78 MW runoff-river hydropower electricity plant (HEPP) called Akçay HEPP in Aydin, Turkey. The plant is situated at the end point of Bozdoðan - Akçay Left Coast Main Irrigation Channel and generates electricity from the water left over from the channel. It then conveys the water to the Akcay river bed, without requiring any reservoir area or diversion weir. In addition to producing electricity, the project also functions as a part of the irrigation channel to deliver water to the river bed. Key Highlights: - The Akçay HEPP generates electricity from water and conveys the water to the river bed without a reservoir area or diversion weir. - The project plays a dual role of producing electricity and delivering water to the river bed as a part of the irrigation channel. - The net electricity production from the plant is estimated to be 76.915 GWh per annum, with annual emission reductions estimated at 49,610 tCO2e. This project is significant because it provides a renewable energy source through hydropower generation without the use of a reservoir or diversion weir. Furthermore, the project serves as an integral part of the irrigation channel by delivering water to the river bed, thus contributing to the conservation of the local ecosystem. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the Akçay HEPP project is making a positive impact on the environment.
