This website, carbonmark.com (the "Site"), is operated by Offsetra LLC ("Carbonmark", "we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we collect on the Site, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have.

What we collect

  • Information you give us: your name, email address, and the content of your message when you contact us, request a report, or sign up for our newsletter.
  • Usage data: collected automatically when you browse: the pages you view, the links and buttons you interact with, the page that referred you, your device and browser type, your IP address and the approximate location derived from it, and system logs kept for operating and securing the Site.
  • Cookies: as described under Cookies and your analytics choice below.

You are not required to provide personal information to browse the Site, but some of it is necessary for specific requests: we cannot reply to a message without an email address.

How we use it

We use personal information to:

  • operate, secure, and improve the Site;
  • respond to your messages and requests;
  • send you content you asked for, such as our newsletter;
  • understand how the Site is used, through the analytics described below;
  • comply with legal obligations, and establish or defend legal claims where necessary.

Where the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we rely on the following legal bases: your consent (which you may withdraw at any time), the performance of a contract with you, compliance with a legal obligation, and our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the Site.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only with service providers that process it on our instructions to run the Site (hosting, analytics, and email and contact management) and with authorities where the law requires us to disclose it. You can request a current list of our service providers at privacy@carbonmark.com.

Analytics

We use PostHog to understand how the Site is used so that we can improve it. PostHog is provided by PostHog, Inc., which acts as a Data Processor on our behalf and processes this data in the United States.

Through PostHog we collect Usage Data such as the pages you view, the links and buttons you interact with, the page that referred you to us, your device and browser type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Analytics requests are served from our own domain, metrics.carbonmark.com.

We do not use analytics data for advertising, and we do not sell it.

Cookies and your analytics choice

If you visit from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we ask for your choice before any analytics cookies are set. A banner gives you two options:

  • Allow analytics: we set an analytics cookie so that we can recognise your device across pages and visits.
  • Reject cookies: we still count your visit, but we do not store an identifier on your device and you are not followed from page to page.

Either way, we save your choice on your device so that we do not ask again. We also set a small cookie recording the country your request came from, which is what tells us whether to show the banner at all.

If you visit from outside the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, analytics runs without a banner.

To change your choice, clear this site's cookies and site data in your browser, or contact us at privacy@carbonmark.com. You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings. The Site does not respond to "Do Not Track" signals.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for: information tied to a request or contract, for the life of that request or contract; information processed with your consent, until you withdraw it; information processed for our legitimate interests, until that interest is satisfied or you validly object; and in any case longer only where the law requires it. When the period ends, the information is deleted.

International transfers

We are based in the United States, and the service providers we use to operate the Site also process data there. If you use the Site from another country, including the EEA or the UK, your personal information is transferred to and processed in the United States. Contact us at privacy@carbonmark.com for more information about these transfers.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights over your personal information:

  • to access it, and receive a copy of it;
  • to correct it;
  • to have it deleted;
  • to restrict or object to our processing of it;
  • to receive it in a portable, machine-readable format;
  • to withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it;
  • to complain to your data protection supervisory authority.

If you object to processing done for direct marketing, we will stop; no reasons are needed. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@carbonmark.com. Requests are free of charge and answered as soon as possible, at the latest within one month.

California residents: the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you rights to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. As stated above, we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can exercise your CCPA rights through the same contact address.

Children

The Site is not directed at children. In line with the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and if we discover that we have, we delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy at any time by posting the new version on this page; check the date of last modification shown at the bottom. If a change affects processing that relies on your consent, we will ask for your consent again where required.
